All Federal Government projects, programs, services and activities that provide assistance and benefits to citizens are cataloged in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. All financial and non-financial assistance programs implemented through departments and establishments for the United States Federal government are recorded in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance.

The CFDA had its genesis in 1984. The federal government transferred the responsibilities of the Federal Program Information Act from the Office of Management and Budget to the General Services Administration. Included in this transfer was the responsibility for the distribution of all Federal domestic assistance program information through the CFDA.

Responsibility for the database of Federal assistance lies with the GSA. The Office of Management and Budget interfaces with the range of Federal agencies on behalf of the GSA delivering the required oversight to the program data related to domestic assistance.

The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance is the fundamental reference for all Federal programs. Its most important purpose is in assisting visitors in identification of programs that meet their specific requirements. The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance also is a great source of information on Federal assistance programs. The CFDA also seeks to enhance communications and improve coordination between State and Local governments and the Federal government.

The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance lets grant researchers investigate every domestic program managed by Federal agencies and departments in a single database. All information is cross referenced by functional classification, subject, applicant, deadline(s) for program application submission, and authorizing legislation. All of this information can be used as a valuable research tool, making it easier to identify specific areas of program interest more effectively.

For years, GSA has published a printed version of the Catalog, as required by legislation dating to 1977 and 1983. That same legislation allowed GSA to distribute free copies of the printed Catalog to designated recipients. In fiscal year 2003, nearly 10,000 paper copies of the Catalog were distributed at no cost to the recipients.

New rulings now gives the General Services Administration discretion in what form to produce and disseminate the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. The GSA is endeavoring to move to a more paper free environment and toward that end now maintains and distributes the Catalog through the CFDA Website. The GSA no longer prints and distributes free copies of the Catalog.

Government grants are heavily underutilized, but are an invaluable resource for those hoping to obtain business funding”especially since the passing of the Recovery Act, which released Stimulus money. Grants vary by amount, ranging from a couple thousand dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. The critical mistake many business owners make is discounting grants that may be in smaller amounts, as insignificant. The fact is, your competitor could be a business that received $20,000 in grant money last year. While this is not a life-changing amount of money, which companys bottom line is immediately strengthened? Certainly not yours if you did not take the initiative to apply. Doing nothing gives your competitors an advantage. Who doesn’t like free money?

You have probably been bombarded by companies offering to find grants and apply for them for a “nominal” fee”but these services are simply unnecessary. The government actually wants to give away this money to help strengthen the economy, so information pertaining to these grants is available and free to the public.

The first thing you need to know about applying for government grant funding is that your odds are strengthened with numbers. Submitting several applications at once is the best way to ensure that funding from government grants is obtained. Apply to all that is applicable to your business”especially the obscure ones. These grants are commonly overlooked by all demographics, but are extremely underutilized by female business owners in particular. Nearly half of all monies designated for female entrepreneurs in 2008 went unclaimed.

The government wants to give you money!

There are 26 federal grant-making agencies, all of which offer a multitude of grants each year. Grants are categorized and rewarded by the following segments:

Agriculture Business and Commerce Consumer Protection Education Energy Food and Nutrition Housing Information and Statistics Law, Justice and Legal Services Science and Technology and other Research and Development Recovery Act Community Development Disaster Prevention and Relief Employment, Labor and Training Environment Health Humanities Arts Income Security and Social Services Natural Resources Regional Development Transportation

At first glance it may appear that the selection of available grants that your business may be eligible for is limited. The key is to look beyond the obvious. The fact is, a large number of grants are overlooked each year, and the money is not used. Looking for, and applying to the most obscure grants can often be your ticket to obtaining funding. Given that you have properly filled out the form, if you are the only person who applies for a grant, you win!

Remember, do not be discouraged if you only receive one grant from your first 10 applications. This is free money that you did very little to obtain, and it also means that it will be easier to obtain government funding in the future. Once you have your first grant, and have proven that you will use the money wisely to expand your business and stimulate the economy, you may actually be personally invited back to apply for other grants in the future. Obtaining grant money is a slippery slope, of sorts”once you get the ball rolling, nothing can stop you! Learn more about grant funding for your business

, including the best time to apply, various application methods, search techniques and the application process.

It’s hard to believe I know, but did you realize that there are agencies within the government that will help you acquire a government grant or loan? Grants and loans can be obtained even with a low credit score which will help to repair your credit history.

In order to qualify, you will of course have to jump through a few hoops to qualify. If you’ve tried to borrow money from the bank or your credit agency and you been turned down twice, this alone may qualify you. Lets suppose you want to buy a used car and you been turned down for a loan by two dealerships, this could meet the requirements set down by the government.

Government grants and loans come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, including money for business start ups, grants for taking care of foster children, and even for single parents. If you choose to pursue a higher education in college or through university, there are student loans and grants waiting for you. After going through all the red tape to qualify for government loan you will find that the interest rate is very reasonable on paying back the money, which can be very beneficial to you.

The penalties for missing payments or defaulting on your government loan can be quite ugly, plus the fact that you will never qualify for another one. The government has the right to take money directly out of your bank account or garnish your wages. And that inheritance your grandmother just left you isn’t even safe. Just remember to always honor your responsibility when it comes to paying back debt especially to the government. Just remember, you can run but you can’t hide, especially from Big Brother if you own the money.

If you’re having trouble meeting your financial obligations, the government also offers some grants and loans to help you pay off your creditors. If you had a choice to take government grant or loan, you would probably take the grants, because it’s free money and doesn’t have to be paid back. But of course there’s always a catch, if you use the money for anything else other than its intended purpose, you’ll start to see those of the penalties again. Even worse, you could be prosecuted and sent to jail so consider the warning.

A bill passed by Congress offers some help to those who’ve lost their jobs due to the bad economy and cant pay their creditors. The bill entitles the qualified applicant the right to use legal aid and greatly reduced legal fees, accessible across the country. If you’re having trouble negotiating with your creditors, there are government agencies that can intervene on your behalf. Free credit counseling is also available which is really handy if you need it.

If you’re really stuck Housing and Urban Development (HUD) can help with your rent payment temporarily until you get back on your feet. There’s also something for first-time homebuyers with a less than perfect credit history. HUD has made available up to 500K protected under the Homebuyers Bill of Rights, for first-time buyers at low interest with a not so great credit.

We are in tough economic times, but don’t get this courage, because there is help available. Contact your lending an institution or local government agency to find out more about government loans and grants.

by Brian Shortt

It is the responsibility of government’s to provide us with what we need. As citizens, we are required to do what is expected of us. That is the same with the grant. As soon as you received a grant from a government body, make sure that their investment on you will not be put into waste.

Then there are also the grants for the individual person. The popular scholarship grant is one example. The difference between a scholarship grant to a scholarship loan is that there is no need for the student to repay for the former, as opposed to for the latter.

A student is obligated to pay back a scholarship loan, especially after he graduates. But a students only obligation when it comes to a scholarship grant is to meet the required grades expected of him and to also submit progress reports of his academic excellence. Look at it as the government funding for his education.

How to Find a Grant

When you are looking for something, you should at least have an idea what you are looking for. It is much easier if you know exactly what you want. This is how you shop for shoes and clothes. Apparently, it is the same technique used when finding a grant.

First of all, you have to identify which government agency provides the grant that you specifically need. Now do not be too impatient because searching for this government agency entails a lot of your time, exertion of a lot of effort and conducting your own research.

But before doing any of these, you must learn how to research on these topics.

If you are in search of a funding for an already existing or a new for-profit business, there may be some difficulty in finding the grant that you need. Most of the time, government grants are bestowed to non-profit organizations. They prioritize services and programs that contribute to the community at an upscale level. Up to $500,000 from venture capital companies for your new business.

We recommend you to check the US Government Grants website at http://www.trustedreviews.info/money/usm/unclesamsmoney.html. With its search engine, this site will assist you in finding for the grant opportunity that is suitable for you. Add to the fact that you can also get the information on the types of grants. Upon knowing the other grants out there, you may consider your options. Also, it is specified on that site which government agency bestows the grant. You can also sign up on that site in order for you to receive notifications of possible future grants.

People who want to become a homeowners can get government grants for housing which are available in most states. You will have to do some paperwork but this will prevent you from becoming homeless due to nonpayment of rent or mortgages. There are several kinds of programs.

A lot of the states have a program to help people who need money for things like:

Paying your mortgage

The different programs of government funds for housing include:

*Loans at a very small payment *Rent relief programs *Programs for special price for homes and apartments *Programs to construct your own home at low interest loans

Government loans and grants are available for people who are ready to apply and if you want money for things like:

*Help you pay your rent during a hard time *Looking for low income housing *Possibly build your own home

If you qualify, you would have to do the paper work for low rent, housing funds and awards, low interest home building awards and government money for housing. Housing money by the government where the apartment or home owner applies for a special housing is known as low rent housing grant. The homeowner is reimbursed by the government for the discounted rent and low income families are able to rent a home for less money but the landlord gets all the money.

Citizens who want to build their own home can get housing grants and loans. People who can afford small amount of down payment can build homes through sweat equity and get low interest home owner fund and loan.

Look into your states requirements for low interest government money and loans for housing.

I completed my FAFSA information and have $2155 available to me in Federal Grant money. I also accepted $3500 in Federal Loan money. If my tuition is $960 and has been paid for by my LOAN, will financial grant money go back and pay this and send me my loan money. Or will I forfeit the grant money since I received a loan? I have all together $5900 available for the semester in grant and loan money and school tuition of $960. They are supposed to send me the remainder for books, etc. Is this correct to expect that amount minus tuition?
