yes, you can. Go to the finacial aid office and ask how much you can have, tell then you need to pay rent and get some books.

Yes. Your school will give you a refund check (some schools actually deposit your refund in your bank account) for the difference between what you owe and what you have been awarded. Just remember that most schools base their awards on full time status, so if you are not going full time your awards may be adjusted.
You can use the refund for anything related to you going to school – rent,etc. like you said, as well as personal expenses.
You should talk to a financial aid officer at your school for further information. Good luck!

The school should issue you a refund check after things like tuition and other things are taken out. Usually they will inform you when your financial aid has been dispersed, meaning your refund check will either be sent out or deposited into your account (depending on what you have set up with your school) soon after.
